OptiTrack motion capture technology used in Guinness World Record–setting capture of 37 performers simultaneously for RAAKA.
Thirty-seven performers, captured simultaneously in real time. For RAAKA, that achievement has earned a Guinness World Record for the “Most People Motion-Captured in Real-Time”—a milestone for the film and the teams behind its motion capture production. Directed by Atlee and starring Allu Arjun, the project brings ambitious filmmaking and large-scale performance capture together.
OptiTrack customer Apple Arts Studios contributed its motion capture expertise to the production, led by Neel Madhu working alongside Sun Pictures and the film’s creative and technical teams. Based in Hyderabad, India, the studio supports filmmakers with performance capture and motion capture post-production services.
Reporting on the record attempt describes a setup using 92 optical motion capture cameras, supported by facial capture, reference cameras, and real-time visualization in Unreal Engine. The performers ranged in age from four to 70, with all 37 captured together within a single capture volume. Delivering that result required coordination across performers, capture specialists, and the wider production team.
